The Mark of Verification
A short explanation of what the TBF mark means, how a product earns it, and why it matters when you're the one deciding what to buy.
When you see the TBF mark next to a product, it means one thing: we would buy it ourselves.
Not "it's fine." Not "it'll do." We would spend our own money on it, and we'd feel comfortable recommending it to a friend or family member who asked us directly. That is the entire bar. It doesn't move for any category, and it doesn't move for any brand.
What The Mark Is, And Isn't
We'd rather be precise about this than let people assume the wrong thing.
What It Means
- The product was compared directly against the other credible options in its category.
- It held up on the things that matter day to day, not just on a spec sheet.
- We reached a genuine, independent conclusion that it's worth the money.
- The listing is reviewed periodically, and the mark is removed if the product stops earning it.
What It Isn't
- It is not a government, safety, or industry certification of any kind.
- It is not a guarantee of your personal results with the product.
- It is not paid placement. Being an affiliate partner does not earn a product the mark on its own.
- It is not permanent. A product can lose the mark if better options appear or standards change.
Three Conditions, No Exceptions
We only award the mark to a product after weighing it against every other credible option we could find in its category, not in isolation.
Marketing claims and spec sheets get set aside in favour of what actually matters once the product is in someone's hands, home, or routine.
We periodically revisit marked products. If a better alternative overtakes it, or the product itself declines, the mark comes off the page.
The Mark, In Practice
You'll find this directly beneath a product on any guide where it has been awarded.

Why We Bother With This At All
For You
A crowded category can take an entire afternoon to research properly. The mark is a shortcut to the products that have already cleared that work, so you can decide faster and with more confidence.
For Us
Our name is attached to every mark we award. Handing it out loosely would cost us the one thing this entire site depends on, which is being right often enough that you keep coming back.
